Plans to improve South Main Street have hit another speed bump – it turns out the brand-new speed bump near Green Avenue wasn’t a good fit.

A block of South Main was closed this week during construction on a new tabletop-speed bump, which is expected to be completed today, Friday, by 5 p.m. It replaces a steeper speed bump that was installed earlier in 2025.

“We’re making a small adjustment to ensure consistency across the corridor and improve comfort for drivers,” said Anna Melnick, communications manager for the City of Penticton “This reflects our commitment to listening to community feedback and continuously improving infrastructure.”

Melnick said the “modest” price tag of the new bump is estimated between $3,000 and $5,000.
