BRAINERD — With the weather getting colder, it's time to get those carbon monoxide alarms checked.

Residents of Brainerd, Baxter and the surrounding areas in the fire department’s coverage area are encouraged to call the Brainerd Fire Department and set up an appointment to have their carbon monoxide alarms checked Oct. 15-16.

Deputy Chief Dave Cox said the department has a program where people can make an appointment and the department will go check and verify their alarms, both smoke and carbon monoxide, are working. The department is focusing on carbon monoxide alarms as they received a grant from the state this year.

Capt. Paul Rosier said he started the program about four years ago after he noticed they were responding to an abundance of carbon monoxide alarms.
