DERBY, Kan. (KWCH) - The Derby Police Department posted a warning on Facebook about a scam that residents are reporting.
According to the police, scammers are spoofing the phone number of the police department and calling people around Derby. They demand that the person who answered the phone send them money to avoid being arrested.
The Derby Police Department stated in their post that they will never call residents and demand payment in lieu of arrest.
If you receive a call that you are unsure about, verify the legitimacy of it before you give out any information. Hang up and contact the police department directly to discuss the call.
