WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Plans for a city-operated energy service in Watertown to be discussed by Watertown city council Tuesday night.
Cliff Olney’s “Watertown Energy Service Company,” or WESCO, would be a city run company that buys energy for wholesale prices, and sells it at retail prices to consumers, residents, and businesses.
It would give the city a market for the hydropower it’s generating, and help offset a loss of $5 million yearly when the city’s contract with National Grid runs out in 2029.
“My aspirations for Tuesday night are simply for the rest of council to take a look, listen, and then understand as much as possible what is involved about this going forward,” said Olney.
The plans for the company will be brought before city council at Tuesday night’s work session,
