UAB is set to part ways with head football coach Trent Dilfer after an abysmal three years in Birmingham.

Dilfer was fired by the Blazers after a 53-33 blowout loss to Florida Atlantic, which left the Blazers at 2-4 on the season.

In announcing the move, UAB athletics director Mark Ingram said the program's on-field performance had "not lived up to the standard of winning we have for the program."

The Blazers were 4-8 in 2023, Dilfer's first full season, and went 3-9 in 2024, good for a 9-21 record over two and a half seasons.

Dilfer, a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, had built a strong high school football resume before being hired at UAB, leading Lipscomb Academy in Tennessee to a 44-10 record as head coach.

Dilfer was the seventh head coach in UAB football history.
