ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Rochester Fire Department responded to a house fire near Reed Park on Sunday evening.
According to Lieutenant Jackie Sierra, Rochester Fire Department's Public Information Officer, the initial report to first responders was that a vacant home was on fire. However, there was concern for a possible person trapped, as the property is known to have squatters in the area.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire and found that the home was boarded up, causing some difficulty in accessing the home. A second alarm fire was declared for resources and to assist in the search of the home for any occupants. No one was found inside the structure.
The home incurred heavy damage due to the flames, which were reportedly brought under control within 20 minutes.
