HUMBOLDT, Iowa --The parents of a student who was sexually abused by a former Humboldt middle school teacher have filed a lawsuit against the school district for allegedly knowing of and concealing the abuse.

Samantha Meyer-Davis, at the time a Humboldt middle school teacher, was arrested for sexually abusing a student in 2023. Meyer-Davis later received federal charges related to the assaults. Court records state that between May 2022 and November 2023 Meyers assaulted a student who was 14-years-old at the time.

After several months at trial, Meyer-Davis pled guilty to sexually exploiting a student in May 2025. On October 6, Meyers was sentenced to 20 years in prison with a five year supervised release and was ordered to pay $13,000 in restitution.
