BRISTOL, Conn. — Connecticut is keeping the memory of two Bristol police officers alive three years after they were killed in an ambush shooting.
On Oct. 12, 2022 , Bristol Police Lt. Dustin DeMonte, Sgt. Alex Hamzy and Ofc. Alec Iurato responded to a 911 call involving a dispute between two brothers, Nicholas and Nathan Brutcher. When the three officers arrived at their residence, Nicholas Brutcher ambushed and fatally shot Hamzy and DeMonte.
Iurato, who was also injured in the shooting, was able to escape before firing a single shot that killed Brutcher.
Bristol police privately honored the officers Sunday and asked the community this week to show its support for the officers, as it has done in previous years, by illuminating blue lights and candles.
