BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — Summit Carbon Solutions is looking to move forward with its carbon pipeline with or without North Dakota. The Ames-based carbon capture company is seeking an amendment to its permits in Iowa.

The Summit Carbon Pipeline was originally intended to lay 2,500 miles of carbon pipeline across the Midwest and move carbon released during ethanol production to an underground storage site in North Dakota. The advantages of the project included billions in tax incentives for the state involved. Summit is now seeking to amend its permits in Iowa, removing from the permits that carbon would arrive at "permanent storage in North Dakota."

The proposed pipeline hit a snag when Summit failed to receive permits in South Dakota, and an even bigger snag when South Dakota passed a law
