UAB fires Trent Dilfer after three seasons

UAB fired head football coach Trent Dilfer on Sunday, six games into his third season, the university announced. The move came one day after the team fell to Florida Atlantic 53-33, dropping to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the American Athletic Conference.

Offensive coordinator Alex Mortensen will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Blazers’ latest loss marked their third straight defeat and continued a downward trend under Dilfer, who was on pace for a third consecutive losing campaign.

All four of UAB’s losses this season came by at least two touchdowns, and just one of their victories was against an FBS opponent.
