Governor Kelly Armstrong declared October Substance Use Prevention Month, and North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) is touting its success.
HHS reported that alcohol use among North Dakota high school students has seen a significant decrease.
"We've seen really positive progress over the years. In a decade, we've seen high school alcohol use drop from about 35% reporting current alcohol use to 20% in a decade," said Laura Anderson, Policy Director, Behavioral Health Division. "So we're seeing very positive progress."
HHS sees Substance Use Prevention Month as an opportunity to celebrate the initiatives and the possibilities prevention brings.
