Elected officials on Long Island were just dinged by a state judge for “secretly” plotting to appoint a new supervisor without notifying the public.
Nassau County Supreme Court Justice Gary Carlton found that the Hempstead Town Board violated New York’s Open Meetings Law by failing to give residents a 24-hour notice that it was installing John Ferretti as supervisor. 6

“The court finds that it is readily apparent that plans had been made in advance of the August 5, 2025 town meeting for Mr. Clavin to step down and Mr. Ferretti to be appointed Supervisor,” Carlton wrote in his ruling last Wednesday.
