One of the biggest parts of a City Councilor’s job is to decide the city’s budget each year.

This can involve difficult decisions as city officials work to fund the services Bangor needs without overburdening taxpayers. Attendees at council meetings have raised concerns about rising property taxes, and some are especially worried about how higher taxes could strain older residents and people on fixed incomes.

The Bangor Daily News asked each City Council candidate the following question: Municipal budgets have been contentious lately, and public commenters often raise concerns about property taxes and ask for the city’s budget to be reduced. What is your outlook on the city’s spending? Are there any areas where you’d like to see spending reduced?
