A debt-laden shire in WA's Goldfields has avoided being suspended over mismanagement allegations just five days out from the state’s local government elections.

Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley has announced she will not suspend the Shire of Coolgardie council after "serious concerns" were raised about its financial management and governance.

Instead, the council will remain in operation with "clear expectations" being set for the shire to rebuild its financial position. Loading
