Prosecutors have called for former Canberra academic Rick Emory McGary to be jailed for a significant period of time after he was found guilty of raping two women by an ACT Supreme Court jury.

McGary, 39, was tried three times before he was convicted of two out of three charges after one incident in 2016 at the Australian National University, and another in 2020, which started as a picnic at the Cotter Reserve.
During a sentencing hearing today, one of the victims addressed McGary directly, accusing him of an "act of intimate destruction".
