Shadow immigration minister Paul Scarr has declined to say whether his views on immigration differ from outspoken colleagues Andrew Hastie and Jacinta Nampijinpa Price.
Mr Scarr told Sky News on Monday that his focus was on conducting the immigration debate based on “facts and evidence” rather than “emotion”.
It follows a turbulent period for the Liberal Party, during which both Mr Hastie and Ms Price left the frontbench after making controversial remarks about migration.
Mr Hastie recently warned Australians were feeling “like strangers in our own home”, while Ms Price suggested there was “concern” about the Indian migrant community .
Asked whether his approach contrasted with Mr Hastie and Ms Price, Mr Scarr said: “Well, I think that's for other people to comment upon.”
