The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh held an event to commemorate the lives lost in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel — less than a day before hostages taken by the group are expected to start being released to Israeli families.
At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, attendees gathered at Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh’s Levinson Hall. Speakers gave their remarks about the “barbaric” and “deadly” attack to a crowd of hundreds.
On that day, Hamas-led militants pour into southern Israel after a surprise barrage of rockets. They stormed multiple locations, including the Supernova Sukkot Gathering, a Nova music festival taking place near the kibbutz Re’im. This attack resulted in nearly 1,200 people killed, 251 others abducted and a two-year war between the group and Israel.
