Even though the Columbia Public Schools board approved the 2026-27 school year calendar last month, legislative changes that took effect Aug. 28 mean amendments to the calendar are needed.

The changes at the state level were shared with the district after the board had approved the calendar, a context note on the Oct. 13 board agenda stated.

Because the district already includes the required 36 hours for inclement weather, exceeds minimum instruction days and instructional hours (including the 36 makeup hours), this means the district does not need additional makeup days built into the calendar and that the district will not have the employ alternative methods of instruction on inclement weather days.
