SUNRAY — The Sunray community has been through a lot in the past eight months.

In March, an explosion at the Skyland Grain Elevator injured five people and forced others around the building to briefly evacuate their homes, in addition to damaging water and gas lines.

Just a few months later, a severe storm tore through Moore County, leaving the town of around 1,700 with significant damage. In the early morning hours of Aug. 4, winds exceeded 80 miles per hour, tearing down the press box, visiting stands and lights at Bobcat Stadium.

In September, though, Sunray’s luck changed.

On Sept. 25, the school was named a finalist for T Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights contest, winning $30,000 along the way. On Oct. 10, the Bobcats were presented with the check during halftime of Sunray’s Distric
