An NHS employee who was denied treatment for serious gum disease through the health service travelled to Croatia for a complete set of dental implants - having been quoted over £40,000 for private treatment in Britain.

Sarah Wilding, 54, from Leicestershire, had consistently maintained regular dental appointments but began noticing her gums retreating and teeth loosening during her late forties.

Following a diagnosis of advanced gum disease, she claims her condition went untreated by her NHS dentist, and she was ultimately rejected for specialist referral.

"I was told I had gum disease and when I asked what it was, they just said the bone shrinks - there was no treatment offered," Sarah said, who works in theatre operations for the NHS.
