: Thousands of tea tribe and Adivasi community members on Monday took to the streets of Dibrugarh, staging one of the largest protests in recent years against the BJP-led Assam government.

Workers from 218 tea estates, 24,000 small tea growers’ plantations, and 70 bought-leaf factories joined the demonstration, disrupting production across eastern Assam. Their core demands included inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, a hike in daily wages to ₹551, and legal allotment of land to landless tea workers’ families.

Protest leaders announced plans to expand the movement, with similar rallies to be organized in all tea-producing districts to mount pressure on the state government.
