A new furniture store drawn to Danville because of the explosive growth in the city could open within a week.

What used to be Big Lots at 142 Executive Drive is morphing into Virginia Furniture Market.

The Rocky Mount-based store is renovating the space inside and out, Susan Childs, a spokesperson for Virginia Furniture Market, told the Register & Bee via email Friday.

The overhaul entails everything from electrical work, plumbing, heating and air, security and information technology.

“We’ve redone floors, removed walls, repaired leaks in the sky lights, replaced glass in windows and doors and installed, painting, bringing in new walls to showcase room groups and so much more,” Childs told the newspaper.
