BACLIFF, Texas (CW39) — The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly dog attack that left one man dead Sunday afternoon in Bacliff.

Deputies were called to the 400 block of Louisiana Avenue in Baycliff, after getting reports about a dog attack. He was being attacked by his own two pit bull–breed dogs, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived, they said both dogs were still attacking him in his yard. One of the dogs was reportedly still latched onto the man’s arm when deputies arrived.

To try to stop the attack, a deputy fired a gunshot, striking one of the dogs. The dog let go and went to a corner of the yard.

The man was taken to HCA Clear Lake Hospital with CPR in progress but was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
