SHREVEPORT, La. -- When the Shreveport Country Club went up in flames, the public learned the building had long sat in disrepair, often frequented by squatters and the homeless. But for many in Shreveport, memories of the club’s heyday came rushing back — when the Country Club was a lively gathering place for families across the Ark-La-Tex.

One of those remembering better days is Nathan Barrow, now the PGA golf professional at Querbes Park. Before that, he spent about four years leading golf operations at the Shreveport Country Club — the same course where he first learned the game as a child.
