MADISON (WKOW) — Construction is underway on one of Madison's busiest roadways that sees nearly 48,000 vehicles everyday, according to the city.
Phase one of the significant reconstruction project on John Nolen Drive started Monday, Oct. 13, and is expected to last nearly two years.
Traffic is now reduced to one lane in both directions between Lakeside Street and the Broom Street intersection. North Shore Drive and Broom Street will also have one lane open in each direction where they intersect with John Nolen Drive. The southbound left turn from Broom Street onto John Nolen Drive is closed for the duration of the project.
All six bridges along the causeway are set to be reconstructed due to deterioration. Additionally, three new bridges will be added for bike and pedestrian traffic.
