EAU CLAIRE (WQOW) - Natural gas customers in Wisconsin can expect to see their winter bills increase by about 15%, according to Xcel Energy.

Officials said the average monthly bill was $112.08 last year. This year, it will be $128.72. Xcel Energy attributes 8% of this increase to the higher cost of natural gas, which customers pay directly without markup. The remaining 7% is due to increased infrastructure and other costs.

"We are committed to doing all we can to keep costs low for our customers while delivering the safe, reliable energy they depend on at an affordable price," Chris Oullette, Senior Media Relations Representative for Xcel Energy said in an email.

In 2024, the average monthly electric bill for Wisconsin residential customers was 24% below the national average.
