NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — Two political newcomers are running unopposed for Village Board, the only race in the village this year.
Richard D. Souto and Allen D. Ross are both running on the Democratic party line.
Two seats on the village board are up for grabs. Village board members typically serve four-year terms; however, due to a change in state law that requires most local elections to take place in even years, this year, four-year positions would be for only a three-year term. A decision by the Court of Appeals on a challenge to that law is pending.
Souto, 55, has lived in New Paltz for 10 years. He is the executive director of LEAP, Inc., a New York City-based non-profit offering creative arts programs to city youth. He is a graduate of Wallkill Senior High School, has a bachelor’s degree
