Volunteers across Oklahoma are preparing to collect gift-filled shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child during National Collection Week , Nov. 17–24. Nearly 5,000 drop-off sites will open nationwide, giving residents the chance to donate boxes packed with toys, school supplies and hygiene items for children in need.

The project, organized by Samaritan’s Purse , partners with churches worldwide to deliver the boxes to children affected by war, poverty, disease and disaster. Since its start in 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 232 million shoeboxes to children in more than 170 countries and territories. This year, organizers hope to reach another 12 million children.
