The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly approved three ordinances for road service area elections in November and rejected one in a split vote Thursday night.

However, the public hearings left both residents and Assemblymembers frustrated with the process or with hitting a dead end when it comes to road service areas.

All four ordinances requested by the petition set up elections for service areas to absorb neighborhoods. For three ordinances, two elections must be held for each service area; one for service area residents and one for neighborhoods wishing to join.

If voters in one election vote against the area, both elections automatically fail.
