John Swinney has promised to open a nationwide network of walk-in GP surgeries on local high streets if his party is returned to power at next year's Holyrood election. ‌

The First Minister used his keynote speech today at the SNP conference in Aberdeen to pledge to tackle the "8am rush for appointments" which leave thousands of Scots patients frustrated every weekday morning. ‌

The SNP has faced repeated criticism from Labour over its handling of the health service in recent years, with one in six people across Scotland currently stuck on some form of NHS waiting list. ‌

Swinney, whose party sits more than 10 points ahead in the polls ahead of May's election, told SNP members he wanted to see walk-in surgeries which will be open seven-days a week.
