Victoria residents who are watching fall leaves pile up in their yards can soon put them out for the city’s annual leaf collection.

The annual leaf collection will resume on Oct. 14, and the city says the program collects an estimated 7,000 tonnes of leaves from over 40,000 trees.

“We offer leaf collection to help keep leaves out of storm sewers, which can cause flooding,” Victoria says on an information page about the program.

“Collected leaves are used to produce quality mulch for City parks and community programs.”

Starting on Oct. 14, leaves will be collected in James Bay, Fairfield, Rockland and Gonzales, then a second round will begin on Dec. 8.
