A 30-year-old woman has died following an early-morning stabbing Sunday in downtown Campbell River, and police have charged a 29-year-old woman with second-degree murder.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Oct. 12, Campbell River RCMP responded to a report of a possible stabbing in the 1300-block of Dogwood Street in the city’s downtown.

According to police, an office conducting proactive patrols in the downtown core was able to respond to the scene in less than a minute after the call came in. The officer was able to identify and apprehend a 29-year-old suspect as she was leaving the area.

Two other responding officers arrived and began lifesaving measures on the 30-year-old woman who suffered a life-threatening stab wound.
