CHARLOTTE, N.C. — October is National Bully Prevention Month. The National Center for Education Statistics' latest data shows one out of every five students has experienced bullying.

Between being in school and social media never shutting off, kids are reporting bullying more and more.

Experts say there are ways to talk to your children about this sensitive topic.

The latest data from the U.S. Department of Education says every child witnessed, experienced, or was aware of bullying during the 2021-2022 school year.

As parents, you want to do everything in your power to stop or help your kids. Psychologist Vanessa Jensen at the Cleveland Clinic said the first thing to do is listen.

“Just listen and let your child talk," Jensen said. "If we overreact, then kids overreact."
