DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- Dayton Police have released details on a shooting Friday in southwest Dayton that killed a 5-year-old girl.
According to police, officers were sent to the 3000 block of Nicholas Road around 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, for a reported shooting.
When they arrived, they located a father, 27, and daughter, 5, with gunshot wounds. They had been in a vehicle when it was hit by multiple rounds.
Both were taken to the hospital for treatment, but the girl, later identified by the community as Legaci Deshawn Taylor, died of her wounds. Her father's non-life-threatening wound was treated at the hospital.
The community held a balloon-release vigil for Taylor Sunday night.
