CROWN POINT — The 35-year-old man shot dead Sunday evening in Dyer during what police called a domestic disturbance has been identified by the Lake County Coroner's Office as Lanell Riley, 35, of Gary.

Riley's death was ruled a homicide by the coroner's office.

Lake County police said they were called out sometime after 5 p.m. Sunday to the 8600 block of Beall Street.

The preliminary investigation indicates Riley was at the home to visit his child and the child’s mother, police said.

"There was a dispute where threats were allegedly made against the woman’s mother," according to police.

The 52-year-old man who owns the home wound up in the street arguing with Riley when the younger man was shot, police said. Riley was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead
