The Georgia High School Association executive committee has ruled on a major change that will affect how postseason teams are selected and seeded. Starting in the 2026-2027 season, the GHSA will use a points-based formula called the Post Season Rankings to determine who makes it into the playoffs and what seed they will hold through the duration of the postseason.

In this system, only region champions will be guaranteed an automatic spot in the playoffs. This is a significant change from the current system where the top four teams in a region are guaranteed a playoff spot, with the champions and runners-up being given the No. 1 and 2 seeds respectively. This format has been used previously in classifications 1A-3A, but now every classification will use it.
