(WHTM)-- Interstate 83 has the green light to get wider after PennDOT said it has been awarded a $132 million contract for the next phase of the project.

With the new contract, I-83 will be widened from two lanes to three in each direction from Cameron Street to 29th Street, and two bridges on I-83 will be widened and reconstructed.

Additionally, a new 13th Street bridge will be constructed, and 17th Street will be widened, featuring a new interchange.

Improvements will also be made along the Paxton Street corridor.
