At least one person was injured after a two-story home in Hibbing exploded Sunday evening.

The Hibbing Fire Department said in a social media post that it responded to the call at 6:38 p.m. Sunday. The person was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The home on Ninth Avenue East was engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived. The fire spread to a nearby home and by 9:15 p.m., it was under control but not yet completely extinguished.

Neighboring fire departments, the American Red Cross and St. Louis County Emergency Management assisted the Hibbing Fire Department.

Fire officials described the scene as chaotic.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation. The Hibbing Fire Department is asking the public to stay away from the area.
