SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A street has collapsed in the morningside area of Sioux City over the weekend.
It happened in the 3000 block of South Cornelia Street just north of Lincoln Way.
Gordon Phair, City Engineer, tells KTIV that the street collapsed around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday due to a water main break.
The road collapsed and is the length of several homes. The hole is several feet deep. One portion of the hole is the width of the whole street.
When asked about a timeline for repairs, Phair said it’s based on the current discussion he is having with contractors.
There are two options: replace the water main and repair the whole street, which would take until after Thanksgiving, or patch the road and plan for a full repair of South Cornelia Street next year.
