The U.S. will honor Charlie Kirk with a day of remembrance on Oct. 14, and President Donald Trump plans to give the slain conservative activist the Medal of Freedom at a White House celebration.
Last week, the president said Erika Kirk would accept the award on behalf of her late husband at an evening event in the East Room.
Charlie Kirk was killed by a single bullet Sept. 10 while speaking to students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. It was the first of a planned 15-event American Comeback Tour.
The U.S. Senate considered and agreed to a resolution on Sept. 18 that honors Charlie Kirk on what would have been his 32nd birthday. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Mississippi) was one of 22 cosponsors.
