CHARLOTTE, N.C. — LendingTree founder, chairman and CEO Doug Lebda died in an all-terrain vehicle collision on Sunday, Oct. 12, the company announced.

In wake of Lebda's sudden death, LendingTree's COO Scott Peyree has been appointed to CEO and Lead Independent Director Steve Ozonian as chairman of the board effective immediately.

LendingTree is headquartered in Charlotte. The company moved to Charlotte in 2018. Since then, Lebda donated over a million to support the Charlotte community and rural communities.

Last year, Lebda and his family created the Lebda Family Rural Healthcare Program to provide rural Rutherford County students better access to primary care through Atrium Health's School-Based Virtual Care Program. Lebda committed $500,000 to the program.
