Sarnia is moving forward with a plan to shed southeast city land, after most appeals around a Development Area 2 secondary plan recently were resolved.

Sarnia had plans in 2024 to craft a disposition strategy for 34 hectares (84 acres) of city-owned employment lands southeast of Wellington Street and Highway 40, earmarked for residential and mixed use under Sarnia’s official plan , adopted in 2022.

But several appeals to the Ontario Land Tribunal over the secondary plan for Development Area 2 – a 570-hectare (about 1,410-acre) area poised for development and bounded by London and Confederation lines, and Modeland and Blackwell Side roads – put those plans on ice amid uncertainty how the appeals might impact land plans.
