A 21-year-old Shelby Township man has been charged for allegedly stealing an iPad during a Facebook Marketplace exchange, police said Monday.

Jared Tyhir Barber was arraigned Oct. 10 in 41A District Court on charges of larceny from a person and assaulting a police officer. Magistrate Christopher Alayan set bond at $50,000 cash.

According to police, the incident took place Oct. 9 outside of Pebble Creek Apartments off Utica Road west of Mound Road when Barber met someone at the complex for an iPad 16 for sale on Facebook Exchange.

Police said at one point, the victim handed the suspect the iPad to inspect it before completing the sale. Once the suspect had the iPad in his hands, officers say he took off running.
