TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. – Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency officials are reviewing a proposal to construct a leachate treatment facility at the former Ulster town landfill.
Consultants from SCS Engineers made the $2.8 million proposal on Thursday, Oct. 9, during an agency board meeting.
“The leachate from Ulster and New Paltz landfills is collected, it’s stored in tanks, and then it’s hauled on a regular basis to the Kingston wastewater treatment plant,” consultant Greg McCarron said.
Resource Recovery Agency became responsible for handling leachate from the two former town landfills in 1997 as part of a state Department of Environmental Conservation program that used grant funding to incentivize municipalities to close their solid waste disposal sites.
