DULUTH, Minn. — It’s pumpkin carving season, and at Pier B Resort, the Halloween tradition is bigger than normal.

On Monday, two giant pumpkins arrived to the resort and will be carved up this week.

The orange giants are from Jerry’s Pumpkin Patch in Sturgeon Lake, with one weighing in at 1,738 lb, making it Jerry’s personal best.

It also won several awards, including the “prettiest pumpkin” and “beauty of the north,” at Stillwater Harvest Fest.

A lot of work goes into making the giant pumpkins what they are today.

“As far as what it takes to get them to this point, it’s basically six months of babysitting a pumpkin plant. We start in the spring pretty early to get them in the ground as soon as we can, and then babysit them all season long until we
