Penn State University’s public radio station, WPSU, may stay on the airwaves for years to come after a proposal to transfer ownership of the station was restructured, reviving the deal after the school’s board of trustees voted against a previous version last month.
The decision comes after the university received hundreds of comments urging it to find a way to avoid WPSU’s closure.
Shutting down the station had been the plan after the Penn State Board of Trustees Finance and Investment Committee voted against transferring ownership to Philadelphia-based WHYY last month.
The passage of President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” in July resulted in more $1 billion in federal funding being cut to public media outlets, like WPSU, across the country. That terminated about $1.8 millio
