Train enthusiasts will once again be able to ride the Wilmington & Western Railroad soon.

The popular tourist attraction took a break this year for several months of improvements and repairs. According to board member and volunteer Mark North, one locomotive needed a new entire set of wheels, which involved jacking the locomotive up and pulling out the "trucks" that contained the old wheels. Other maintenance was needed, as well as some painting.

"There was quite a bit to do, and it just was determined at the end of last year there was so much to do that we felt it was best to just pause everything and make sure we reassess everything from track to the equipment," North said.

Installation is also wrapping up on about 2,500 railroad ties. Many of the ties were actually donated to WWRR.
