UNION COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division reports arresting a Union County man on Thursday for pretending to be an insurance agent.

Arrest warrants said 28-year-old Jhakia Sharvae Cureton pretended to represent an insurer licensed to do business in South Carolina or to collect and do business for an insurer without the authority of the insurer.

He admitted to creating a post on his social media that he was an authorized Allstate/Progressive dealer when he never held a professional business license. He was contacted by someone wanting to get automobile insurance on Mar. 8, 2024, before acting as an agent and binding insurance coverage by way of the Progressive website, according to arrest warrants.
