Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out over the weekend at a Hudson County scrapyard that has drawn complaints from neighbors in the past.

Firefighters responded to European Metal Recycling in Bayonne at about 6:19 p.m. on Saturday and discovered heavy fire in a scrap metal pile, according to officials.

They used multiple trucks and fire boats to extinguish the blaze on East 2nd Street, Keith Weaver, the city’s fire chief, said in a statement posted on X .

The flames were brought under control at 11:41 p.m., and no injuries were reported, Weaver said.

The scrapyard company has previously incurred summonses for fire and safety violations for issues that included the size of the scrap piles at the facility. Residents have also complained about dust covering their vehicle
