A 53-year-old man left a 20-foot trail of blood after he was attacked by a man with a machete near Ballard on Sunday night, according to Seattle police.

The victim’s ex-girlfriend confronted him about money on Northwest 46th Street and Ninth Avenue Northwest in the West Woodland neighborhood a block away from an H Mart, police said. The woman’s new boyfriend then began attacking the man with a machete, lacerating him on the left side of his head, left forearm and left hand.

The victim escaped in a vehicle with a friend who drove him to a nearby hospital, police said.

Police found the trail of blood where the attack had occurred. The man was in serious condition, police said.
